‘The Flu’

Parties, drinks, fun, laughter, dance all that brings us together on festive seasons. Christmas on its way we all want to enjoy ourselves and mingle in with our family, friends and colleagues and work. But when we have the worse of all the flu (Influenza), we want to get rid of it so that we don’t miss out on all the fun.

How Does the Flu Spread?
This virus gets around in little drops that spray out of an infected person's mouth and nose when he or she sneezes, coughs, or even laughs. You can catch the flu from someone who has the flu if you breathe in some of those tiny flu-infected drops. You can also catch the flu if those drops get on your hands and you touch your mouth or nose. No wonder people are always saying to cover your mouth when you sneeze!

If you get infected by the flu virus, you will usually feel symptoms 1 to 4 days later. You can spread the flu to others before your symptoms start and for another 3 to 4 days after your symptoms appear. The symptoms start very quickly and may include

· Body aches
· Chills
· Dry cough
· Fever
· Headache
· Sore throat
· Stuffy nose

What If You Get the Flu?
But even if you steer clear of sneezers, and you wash your hands regularly, you still might get the flu. Here are few tips to make yourself better:

1. Keep your self indoors and warm by wearing thick clothes. Or you can keep yourself warm with a Hot water bottle.

2. Rest in bed or on the couch.

3. Drink lots of liquids, like water. Having the flu you loose appetite in eating but eat as much as you can. Light food would be good.

4. Take your medication on the right time to ease your fever, aches, and pains.

5. Keep your used tissues to yourself. Spreading germs can effect others and yourself later.

6. Put hot water in a bowl, with a towel cover your head and place your head down towards the bowl to breathe in the steam from the hot water. This will clear your nose making it easier to breath.
