Lifes
ultimate question, DOES size matter? Boys and
girls will debate different sides to this question..but
it appears that the area where size is most important
is in the world of technology. Who would now use
the big brick phones that you can only now see
in old movies? These days small is definitely
in. its not just mobile phones but computers too
are affected by this obsession with size. From
a desktop pc we went down a size to a laptop,
from that we went to hand held computers…but there’s
something new that’s taking the world by storm.
We’re now in the era of tablet laptops. |
These sleek, light, very portable laptops have
all the benefits of a ‘normal’ laptop but with the added
benefit of being as light as 1.45 kg! The benefits appear
to be endless, wireless connection, the ability to write
directly onto the screen, handwriting recognition etc
all make the tablet laptop almost too good to be true.
The tablet laptop does not just come as one standard
format, there are two options, you can go for ‘the slate’
which boasts the elimination of the usual things associated
with a normal laptop, instead the screen is the point
of input, but if you wish a wireless keyboard can be
used. The other option is to go for ‘the convertible’
while this sounds more like a car than a laptop, ‘the
convetible’ LOOKS like a normal laptop but in actual
fact has many benefits over original laptops, the weight
being just one of them. Direct data input via a Pen
as an input device, the ability to turn the screen which
ever way you prefer with out having to move the whole
laptop, and of course the very sleek look of the thing
itself. The tablet laptop is being advertised as beneficial
for builders, estate agents, couriers, architects and
even doctors! The only implication appears to be the
cost, where you can buy a ‘normal’ laptop for £500,
a tablet laptop will cost £1000 upwards, however
with all the benefits mentioned everyone will be adding
the tablet laptop to their Christmas list, no one wants
to be seen with the now bulky looking old style laptop…the
only question left to ask is whatever will they think
of next?
