People have the misconception of thinking
that all the major stars only go to the capital
or places which are known worldwide, when
they come to the UK. March 31st was a date
which proved that misconception to be incorrect,
for this was the day that a small city, deep
in the heart of Kent, played host to one of
the world’s biggest R&B sensations, Mr
Bobby Valentino, and DesiDesi.com was there
to witness the event.

On the outskirts of Canterbury, the aptly
named “Venue”, a student’s nightclub run by
the University of Kent, provided the location
for a packed out Monday evening. Such was
the demand for this night that even an hour
after doors opened; there was still a long
line of party goers queuing to get in. Eventually
the crowd gained entrance and the dance floor
was soon packed full of happy people, all
dressed to impress.

The resident DJ on the night kept the crowd
moving on the dance floor with a combination
of fresh new tunes along with timeless classics
to keep both the youngsters and the old school
crowd happy. In amongst the tunes, would be
the sound of a Bobby Valentino classic such
as “Tell Me” coming through the speakers.
The crowd roared into life, screaming in excitement
thinking Mr Valentino had arrived; only to
realise that the DJ was just keeping the party
goers on their toes.

As the music flowed, so did the drinks and
the night was becoming more and more electric.
The crowd could sense Bobby Valentino’s imminent
arrival as a group of party goers (mostly
women) made their way to the front of the
dance floor, to stand at the foot of the stage.
Eventually, the crowd at the foot of the stage
had grown into a large standing audience that
occupied almost the entire dance floor, eagerly
keeping their eyes glued to the stage.

Then the big moment arrived, Mr Bobby Valentino,
dressed in a black top, wearing sunglasses
and his bright jewellery around his neck and
wrists broke out onto the stage to a deafening
roar from nearly everybody within the club.
After a brief introduction, he went straight
into his set, performing a range of new and
old tracks, even squeezing in the infamous
Soulja Boy “Superman” dance, which some elements
of the crowd began imitating too, but not
to the same affect. It was also a night to
remember for one lucky lady as she joined
Mr Valentino on stage whilst he serenaded
to her with some intimate lyrics. The performance
ended nicely with Bobby Valentino handing
out roses to those lucky enough to be close
by before making one last wave and disappearing
back stage.

The DJ kept the party going by playing the
classics again for the crowd to start dancing
to as the night continued long into the early
hours. Overall the night was an eventful,
exciting, trouble free night which beats any
other normal Monday evening. The whole event
was planned, organised and executed perfectly
and top marks go out to the promoters, Vaqas
Farook, Omar Quershi, Graham Newlands and
Davinder Panesar. If this night was anything
to go by, The OrangeMan surely does host the
hottest, premier nights and it was a pleasure
for DesiDesi.com to be there!
