1. What first attracted you to Race?
The action adventure spirit of the film and
also that I hadn’t done a thriller for a while.
2. Tell us about the character you
play in Race?
My character is called Ranvir Singh who is
the older of two half brothers. My character
lives in South Africa where he is known as
a ruthless businessman who owns a stud farm
and is passionate about horse racing. Basically
he’s passionate about playing with danger
and outsmarting everyone.
3. Can you tell us a little about
the story?
Well as you can probably tell from the promos,
the film is set in South Africa against the
backdrop of horse racing. It’s a simple story
about the 2 bothers who are out to beat each
other in an emotional game of betrayal, lust,
greed, love and murder. It’s a brilliant thriller
in typical Abbas Mastan style but on this
one they’ve raise the bar. Its got a lot of
twists and turns in it so the story will be
best understood on the big screen.
4. What was the biggest challenge
of acting in the film?
Well I’ve not done this sort of a glossy
action adventure type of a film before so
it was a great experience for me as well as
an interesting challenge to be the shrewd,
suave character who will do almost anything
to get what he wants. In doing so I was doing
a lot of action sequences myself which was
fun.
5. Why did you decide to do some
of the death-defying stunts yourself?
It’s a rush! That’s what the film needed
and nowadays when almost everyone is doing
stunts themselves, it wouldn’t look right
on screen to have stunt double…
6. Were you scared at any point?
Yes of-course but that was part of the fun
we had while shooting.
7. How much of a high did you get
doing them?
Amazing high to just blow up stuff!
8. Which of the three leading ladies
do you think is the hottest?
I like them all! They’re all hot and why
not…that’s what the film is all about.
9. The expectations surrounding your
films are really high now, does that put pressure
on you?
I’m glad actually that people are expecting
high quality of work from me now. It shows
I’ve reached a certain standard. I see it
as a positive challenge to do something new
or different – its no pressure.
10. Women already love your look
in the film, who decided on it?
Anaita Shroff Adajania has done the costumes
in the film who also worked on Dhoom 2 so
I guess she know exactly what she’s doing…It’s
an urbane rich look which I also enjoy wearing.
11. What are Abbas Mastan like as
directors?
Absolutely fabulouse! They know what they’re
looking for in every shot and are clear with
the instructions. They’re also very passionate
and believe in what they’re doing on every
film.
12. Can you give a message to your
fans in the UK?
Watch Race and I hope I wont disappoint.
