Zee Carnival 2007
Friday 16th February

The long awaited and anticipated review of 2007 has now arrived, as the team of Desi Desi say:

“We Lead You Follow”

Friday the 16th February was the starting day of the Zee Carnival. The day was so that the contracted stall could be set up and for people to see how the layout of the arena was.

Harm & me got to the venue, which was the Olympia Exhibition Centre.
It was quite to begin with but the crowd started growing after 2p.m. reason being because the schools and college were breaking up for half term holidays and had half days. All in all the turn out was ok but not brilliant.

There were stalls set up for Henna Mehndi, Women’s Make Up, Women’s Traditional Suits, Moje (footwear), Jewellery, Sheesha (Non Harming Smoking Substance), Chocolate Fountains, Buying New Properties, Property Development, Charity Company’s, Home Furniture, Face Henna Tattoos, A DJ Where People Could Dance & Get Videoed, A Bouncy Castle, A Cricket Court For Kids.

There was a lot of food stalls ranging from all different cuisines such as:

Indian Cuisine
Italian Cuisine
Nutrition Cuisine
Chinese Cuisine
American Cuisine

Also the only radio station that had covered the event and that had a radio stall was Club Asia, who were taking interviews with the crowd and taking their views on the whole Zee Carnival Event.

As it was the 1st day of the Carnival on the main stage the Zee Stars were presenting for most of the day, the stars included in this were

Mutz - From Mutz Cutz
Tazmin - From The Big Gig
Dolphin - From The Big Gig

Then as the day grew on, Esha Deol, Priyanka Chopra, and Shilpa Shetty came on stage one by one and had 15-30 minutes on stage to talk and take questions from the crowd. Some of the questions got personal some were just asking for a kiss or hand in marriage.

Then after their short interviews each of the stars went to the autograph section where people were waiting to take pictures with the stars and get autographs.

After the stars came of the famous cricket player Shahid Afridi and the famous singer Himesh Reshammiya came out to the autograph section and took pictures with the fans and gave them their autographs.

Then to finish off the night Himesh Reshammiya preformed on the main stage and sang some of his famous songs.

Zee Carnival 2007
Saturday 17th February

Being the weekend we expected the crowd to be bigger and better than Fridays turn out, and it was. The atmosphere in the arena was amazing; you had the likes of young kids playing on the bouncy castle, playing cricket, we even saw kids dancing to songs in front of a big crowd being videoed, you had teenagers going around the stalls getting involved with people and then you had the mature crowd.

As Harm & me were going around the venue we were handing out Desi Desi flyers. We had a good crowd on our side on Friday even though the crowd was not that big, and the same again on Saturday but this time the crowd was bigger.

Same again the stalls were the same but now they were getting a lot more attention off the crowd because it was bigger. To be honest personal opinion the Sheesha stall was getting a lot of attention from the younger crowd but I don’t think it should have been allowed to be there, as it was more of a family event.

Being one of the main days because it was the weekend on the main stage the Zee Stars presented for half of the day. They had a competition exactly like you see on Zee TV called Sa Re Ga Ma, where they sing and get judged on it.

After the Zee Stars came on Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol and Priyanka Chopra came on to the stage again one by one having their 15-minute interviews and taking questions from the crowd. After this they went to the autograph stand and did the same they took pictures with the fans and gave them their autographs.

After they did this, the cricket player Shahid Afridi and the famous singer Himesh Reshammiya came out to the autograph section and took pictures with the fans and gave them their autographs as well.

On the Catwalk there was a 20 minute long fashion show with the famous Model Owasis Khan. The fashion show was preformed by a group of stunning female models and there were 4 other male models aswell. The showed off some of the latest fashion wear there is today, from traditional indian suits, to male Kurtha Pujam’s, to Sherwani’s and so forth. Through the fashion show there were a few dance routines aswell to add some effect, we even had them perform the Jackson 5 as Shilpa Shetty and Jermaine Jackson did in the Big Brother House with the Afro’s. Then to finish off the fashion show one of the models did a Micheal Jackson Impression only thing that was missing is that he did not do the moonwalk.

Then on the main stage, we had performances from:

Flex F/X they are a dance group, they came on 2 times they did a Hip Hop Routine and then a Bollywood Routine

Lady Ru she sang 1 song and had 2 female dancers with her which did attract attention to all the fellas in the crowd

SK1 preformed to one song and he had the crowd going even though he forgot some of his lyrics and tried to style it out by pointing the mic towards the crowd.

Josh - Mausam they are new upcoming artists as well, they came on the stage and preformed their new song called Mahi Veh it is a song to look out for there are 2 versions of it, there’s one which is the normal version with the Spanish guitar on it and then there is a dhol remix of it they are both to look out for. They did have the crowd alive and kicking because they are new talent.

Harbhajan Talwar the main man had he’s set and sang the famous song Pasand from his latest album the crowd were cheering and dancing.

Desi Vibes these two are new upcoming artists and the crowd showed their appreciation towards them. They are from Taj-E and Bee2’s Sound Pipe Records. After they had preformed Bee2 came on stage and blessed the mic and did his set whilst Desi Vibes were still on stage, the crowd got even more louder screaming and chanting for Bee2 when out of nowhere Dark MC came out and did his thing on the mic. He MC’d to his song and then all of a sudden the music stopped when Taj-E came on stage and the music started again. The crowd went wild; Bee2, Dark MC, Taj-E and Desi Vibes were dancing on the stage making the atmosphere known. Then Bee2 got on the dholis shoulders while the dholi was still playing Bee2 sang on his shoulders which amazed the crowd because its not something you see a performer do everyday. To finish off the set a new singer for Taj-E’s Sound Pipe Records D.Arry sang his new song from the new album.

Jinx preformed their songs Akhiyan Udeek Diyan and Gal Sun and Rang and had the crowd going.

Asli Baharan Punjab Diyan Bhangra Dancers, they did a routine for 10 minutes of traditional bhangra.

Zee Carnival
18th February 2007

As this was the biggest day of the Zee Carnival it was the last day. As Harm & me entered the venue for the last time we could already see the potential that this day had because the crowd was twice as big as Saturdays turn out.

We did not have any time to go around the stalls because straight away we went to the main stage.

The performances were on all day on the main stage and this is how the day went:

Sona Family (Harry, JC, Kazz, Mr Riz): they started off the Zee Carnival main stage by singing their new song More Glassy, the crowd was already hyped because they knew today had all the acts on and even Sona Family had the crowd going.

Bonafide: Preformed their well known song Look into my eyes the desi version, then they preformed 2 new songs from their upcoming album which I have to personally say they were ones to defiantly look out for, Maz and Ziggy were showing the crowd their appreciation for the turn out and the crowd was responding to them screaming their heads off.

Dj Ams, Khiza and Suman with their Dhol Player, came onto stage where the preformed Sumans song Fight This Feeling and Don’t you know. They had the crowd going when they were performing as usual Khiza was showing his bhangra skills. Then after their performance their Dholi did a 5 minute solo which got the crowd by surprise because it was not suppose to happen, but the sounds of a dhol on its own accapella by all means would get anyone in the mood to dance.

VIP Records came on stage: which included DJ VIPs himself, Ryan Singh, MC Special and Jags Klimax
Ryan Singh kicked it off by playing dhol as he is famously known for coming all the way from up north Scotland. Then as he finished off the beat Jags Klimax came on the mic and did his set of his new song Heer which definitely and I mean definitely got the crowd cheering more. His performance was one of the best so far along with Bonafide. Then MC Special MC’d on the mic to a song, and Dj Vips was just shouting towards the crowd getting them to put their hands up and sing. VIP Records had 2 dancers on stage which were just freestyling.

The long awaited reunion of the all time famous group B21 blessed the stage. The only thing that was missing was Jassi Sidhu because he has not reunited with B21. The second they were announced to come on stage the crowd cheered as loud as they could to show the appreciation of them performing on this night. They preformed their old songs Darshan, Kuriyan Punjab Diyan and to finish it off they sang Ranjha, which definitely had the women screaming.

Asli Baharan Punjab Diyan the bhangra group came on and did a 10-minute bhangra routine to some famous songs.

Aman Hayer and Sun E D came on stage with a guest performance by KS Makhan, now as I said before there were some great acts but this act was another one to go with one of the best of the night, the way they had the crowd on their side, it truly shows that music cant unite people together. They preformed Oh Kurri from 2 Much Glassy and they preformed Tharthi Hildi. Throughout their performance Sun E D was body popping here and there and they had backing dancers called the Back 2 Back dancers.

Flex F/X preformed they are a dance group. They preformed quite a big set doing hip-hop, urban, street and Bollywood dancing the the famous song called Dhoom.

Shilpa Shetty came on stage doing her 15-minute interview when from backstage H from steps came on. They did an interview taking questions from the crowd and also there was a moment where Shilpa was actually holding H’s hand.

RDB came on stage and if you’ve ever seen them perform their entrance is always one to look out for because they always get the crowd chanting “RDB” “RDB” “RDB” then out of no where they will come running on stage singing away and dancing as they do the preformed Ajaa Mahi, Sadi Gali and Buleean from their old album. Then they had a guest appearance from G.I.Jatt and Manak E.

ADH came on stage he preformed songs from his new album called Poolgaye and Vang. He had the two dholis playing all the way through his set; he was another good performance of the night.

Taz from Stereo Nation preformed, he did a few songs and then Lady Ru came on stage and sang with him again. The crowd were still alive and kicking even though so many acts were still to come.

Tariq Khan from Legacy preformed, he came on stage and all the girls and women were screaming there must be some kind of attraction there. He sang his famous song Soniyeh. He only did 2 songs because time was tight for every performance.

Raghav, Ice Berg Slim and D’Vinchi came on stage, after 2 years Raghav came back to the Zee Carnival and the crowd showed their appreciation towards him as he sang the famous songs of his time Teri Baaton, So Confused and their new song called Lonely which may be their new single. Ice Berg Slim did a solo but he was the only one out of all the performances that came off the stage, which was about 8 foot high, and he jumped on the barricade towards the crowd. As the performance went on Raghav started talking about how bad his Valentines Day was but all in all the girls were making most of the noise.

The Zee Stars came on for 5-minutes to say their goodbyes and take questions from the crowd before catching flights back to India. These Stars included

After the Zee Stars

Metz and Trix came on to sing and perform; they sang their new song for the album Street Of Bollywood 2 called A Love Affair. They made the crowd lively again with their song and this is the only song that they preformed because the carnival was tight for time.

The king of Bhangra had arrived on stage and he was what everyone was waiting for, yes Malkit Singh, came on stage and once the crowd got going they didn’t stop singing and showing their love and appreciation for the man of bhangra. He kicked of with his old School Boliyan where the line goes Teri Madi Ter Madi Khand Mukh Gayi Jado Meh Muklabeh Han Dhi, then after that he sang Tutak Tutak Tutiyan Hey Jamalo, then to finish of his set he sang Jago where he had bhangra dancers in the back dancing and he had women on stage actually doing the jago with the candles on their head. The crowed couldn’t stop clapping after he went of stage they wanted more from him, but he was the best performance of the night and the last performance.

Shilpa Shetty came on stage for 5-minutes to quickly take some questions from the crowd then she had to say her goodbyes because she had to get her flight back to India.

Priyanka Chopra came on with Mutz for 5 minutes she took 3 questions from the crowd then she had a flight to catch because she was leaving for India

That was the end of the Zee Carnival 2007

Club Asia were the Partnered Radio Station with Zee TV. The whole team did live broadcasting, they were taking pictures with the crowd, Missy D was hosting the show and so was Jas The Man, Veena V, and Schehzad. The Club Asia Representatives were giving out goody bags to everyone and were showing people around the venue. They did a great job all around.

From the whole of Zee Carnival 2007 it was Great words cannot describe but lets look forward to 2008.
