| Navin is a talented singer, songwriter and composer.
His main strength is his versatility to perform English,
Hindi and Punjabi songs from a variety of genres. His
live performances utilise these abilities to appeal
to the widest range of audience.
His first break came
on his 19th Birthday when he was selected to represent
the UK in an exclusive World Series of India’s biggest
music show, Zee TV’s “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.” This gave him
the opportunity to showcase his talent to stalwart figures
in the Indian music industry, such as Ghulam Ali, Zakhir
Hussain, Jagjit Singh, O.P. Nayyar and Shaan, as well
as presenting his singing talent to a worldwide television
audience.
Winning the BBC Asian
Network's Unsung 2005 competition was one of Navin's
proudest moments. He performed Feel by Robbie Williams
live at the prestigious Birmingham Symphony Hall, sharing
the stage with some of the biggest artists in Asian
music including Gurdaas Maan, Jazzy B, Stereo Nation
and the Rishi Rich Project. The Unsung competition performances
were judged by Rishi Rich, Nyrone, Adil Ray, Shin, and
Mona Singh. Navin was judged the winner by the panel
of judges and also won the “Audience Favourite” award
as voted by thousands of BBC Asian Network listeners.
Since then, Navin has
also recorded a song for “Hustle,” a popular primetime
series on BBC One, which was aired in March 2006. This
is the first time an original song has been composed
in Hindi for a mainstream UK television series, and
Navin’s voice was used to playback for the lead actors
which include Adrian Lester and Robert Vaughn.
Navin has now graduated
from University and started writing and composing for
his debut album. The forthcoming album will include
a mix of influences and genres of music.
Navin’s first song from
the album is ‘Tukde Tukde’, a melodious Punjabi geet
which was composed, produced and sung by Navin, and
co-written with Manpreet Johal. This heart-felt song
about a betrayed lover is sung with passion in Navin’s
unique style, and is a promising indicator of great
music to follow by this talented 21 year old artist.
